Why should you attend?
Technicians will find clear and unambiguous guidelines to run effective evaluation of the prospectivity within a given area, a recap about the main drivers, the tools and their strengths and weaknesses, the most common pitfalls, a number of suggestions and tricks based on three decades of work experience.
Main Objectives:
- To explain how to run a full and effective HC potential analysis
- To allow any participant to move effectively and independently all along the exploration flow
- To get familiar with acreage potential assessment and New Venture actions
- To share knowledge and experiences
Learning Approach:
Attendants will learn through live course, with hand-on practical exercises and a booklet.
They will run on their own or in pairs seismic interpretation, mapping and other exercices targeting an effective evaluation of block potential, via the simulation of new venture analysis, until the presentation to management or partners, with the help and support of the teacher.
Results will be checked at the end of each day and shared among students, to facilitate knowledge sharing.
All documents are provided.
HSE requirements:
No specific requirement for this course that can take place in any meeting room with validated HSE characteristics, in your company premises or elsewhere.
Course Agenda:
Five days (35-40 hours) is the ideal time. The course can be shortened or lengthened according to the request.
Day 1:
- Exploration potential evaluation - Early phase
- From data base building to regional study
- First pass analysis (regional scale)
Day 2:
- Petroleum System – meaning and elements
- Play fairways analysis
- Well data analysis - Logs, core, samples, tests, Pressures etc.
- Well velocity analysis
- Exercises
Day 3:
- Seismic structural interpretation (2D/3D)
- Time-to-depth conversion
- Mapping (TWT, Depth, Thicknesses etc.)
- Target identification & ranking
- Exercises
Day 4:
- HC Evaluation: from lead to prospect
- Risk assessment & reduction
- Uncertainties evaluation
- Special G&G studies
- Geologic Risk analysis (POS or COS)
- HIIP evaluation – method, uncertainties, calculation
- Well location
- Exercises
Day 5:
- New Venture Analysis
- Physical Data Room – essentials & tricks
- Upside potential identification
- Presentation to management
- Geographic and political framework
Prerequisites
The course is addressed to all geoscientists, young and advanced, senior and team/project leader, line managers and other people involved in exploration and development projects.
Attendants will acquire a clear and complete vision of how to run an effective exploration potential evaluation, which are the fundamental actions to run, which is the correct sequence of steps to follow, which can be the tactics, the shortcuts and smart solutions to achieve a complete analysis, how to avoid to waste time and tackle most common pitfalls.
The managers will reinforce their knowledge and comprehension of the general picture, the key steps, the interaction between technical and commercial domains.
The course will help in making the right choice at the right time and to reach the final goal in the given timeframe.
