Why should you attend?
This course will favour the acquisition of an industry standard, fully tested method. Everyone involved in HC exploration, from young geoscientists up to management, must know and understand the exploration general flow, be conscious of why, when and how each activity integrates this flow and how a discipline links with other domains. Any actor in the complex HC exploration work must know and understand the way each single action matches with others’ contribution. The course, based on a number of case histories and tricks, will provide clear picture of main exploration techniques, the advantages and pitfalls, the key elements enabling to become proficient on the job and to deliver the respective section objectives. Senior staff, project and team leaders will find guidelines to improve the interaction among geoscientists and will get familiar with a worldwide consolidated workflow.
Main Objectives:
To introduce and explain exploration fundamentals
To develop the understanding of exploration workflow, processes, tools
To allow any participant to move effectively and independently all along the exploration flow
To share knowledge and experiences
Learning Approach:
Attendants will learn through live course, with hand-on practical exercises and a booklet. They will run, on their own or in pairs, seismic interpretation, mapping and other exercices simulating real cases concerning block evaluation for bidding rounds, new venture analysis, low-costs pre-exploration evaluation, with the help and support of the teacher. Results will be checked at the end of each day and shared among students, to facilitate knowledge sharing. All documents are provided.
HSE requirements:
No specific requirement for this course that can take place in any meeting room with validated HSE characteristics, in your company premises or elsewhere.
Course Agenda:
Five days (35-40 hours) is the ideal time. The course can be shortened or lengthened according to the request.

Prerequisites
The course is designed for junior and senior geoscientists, (geologists, geophysicists and reservoir engineers) that want/need to have a full picture of what is exploration, which are the main drivers and tools, the strong points and limitations, the main workflows for a correct analysis and the geological elements playing a primary role, not only under the technical point of view but in the commercial domain as well.
The class is a perfect opportunity also for team leaders, managers and other discipline leaders who wants to achieve a clear, general picture of this domain, understand how and why different disciplines match together, consolidate the way to run technical and critical supervision, in order to take technical-strategic decisions and be able to provide clear recommendations to senior leadership.
Lecturers
CASTELLANO P.
Geoscientist with 30 years' experience in oil and gas exploration/development in major oil companies: ENI, Gaz-De-France, ENGIE, Neptune Energy.
Throughout these decades he was multi-disciplinary team and project leader, peer review team leader, company's key expert, chief geologist and Technical Authority for exploration geology.
He is also teacher, mentor and coach of young geoscientists, via pedagogical-educational courses and training-on-the-job activity, leading teams by doing, with technical expertise gained over the years.
His core technical background is 2D/3D seismic/structural interpretation and mapping, prospect generation and assessment, from regional play evaluation to target identification, ranking, Play Risk analysis, HIIP volumes evaluation, well location and proposal. He got a strong experience in New Venture analysis and regional or block size assessments for licensing rounds.
Piero has worked in several Countries, regions and basins throughout the world: North Sea (UK, Norway, Hollande, Germany), offshore Poland, Italy, France, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Malta, Azerbaijan, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Brazil.
