The purpose of this field course is to unravel a modern sedimentological analogue for key Angolan oilfields.
Course Type Field Course

Who Should Attend?
This 2-day course is for any geoscientist with an interest in reservoir geology.
Highlights:
Participants will discover the essential parameters of the littoral wave and tide dominated Angolan reservoirs, as seen in todays’ deposits. Their interest will be stimulated by the fact that such reservoirs already produced four billions of oil equivalent barrels.
Main Objectives:
This field course is focused on National Angolan sedimentological analogues, useful in reservoir modelling.
Participants will follow a multiscale approach, from satellite and aerial images, to facies interpretation
At the end of the training session, participants will be able to understand: Littoral facies distributions
Sedimentological parameters
Littoral environments
2D/3D geometries of reservoir
Spatial heterogeneities
Dimensions of geo-bodies
Learning Approach:
The course is based on mutual and active participation. Every geoscientist in charge of reservoir characterization will benefit from these exchanges.
HSE Requirements:
Each participant is required to provide a yearly medical certificate before attending this course. Even if the field work is organized in the vicinity of Luanda, a pre-excursion field check is compulsory. A full medical support will also be requested.
Mussulo Bay (Angola) Sedimentological Model A Modern Analogue for Key Oilfields
Day 1: Class Room Course in Luanda
Overview of satellite imagery applied to littoral wave and tide dominated deposits of the Angolan coasts. Present-day and historical images will be interpreted.
Day 2: Littoral Wave & Tidal Field Course
Sandy barriers geometries are key modern analogues of Angolan oil history. Mussulo lagoon will be studied on foot and by boat.
Prerequisites
This 2-day course is for any geoscientist with an interest in reservoir geology.
Lecturers
Dr. SEYVE C.
As a former geologist with Total, Christian has more than 30 years of experience in the oil industry, from HR stratigraphy to basin analysis. He worked for 12 years in Angola, being lecturer at A.Neto University and in charge of competencies development. Working as Geosciences Education Manager, he created local training programs, in which national case studies were warmly approved by the authorities as key elements of educative projects.
